Stanley Tucci, a renowned actor at the age of 62, found himself hesitant about pursuing a relationship with Felicity Blunt, who is 21 years his junior. Despite trying to end their connection multiple times, Tucci realized that Felicity was a truly exceptional person who had captured his heart.

Their journey began when Tucci’s co-star from “The Devil Wears Prada,” Emily Blunt, introduced him to Felicity during the film’s premiere in 2006. Although they initially went their separate ways, fate brought them back together in 2010 at Emily’s wedding to John Krasinski. This reunion occurred shortly after the passing of Tucci’s wife, Kate. However, Tucci’s concerns about their significant age difference made him question whether he was too old to pursue a relationship with Felicity.

In a candid interview on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Stanley Tucci shared his thoughts, saying, “I was afraid to get into a relationship, and I kept trying to break it off. I’m 21 years older than she is, and I didn’t want to feel old for the rest of my life! But I knew that this was an incredibly special person.”

Tucci had previously experienced the tragic loss of his first wife, Kate, after her battle with breast cancer. Left to raise their three daughters, Isabel and Nicolo, both 23, and Camilla, 21, as a widower, Tucci acknowledged Felicity’s significant role in improving their lives. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “Felicity has been so incredible taking on a widower and three children whose mother died. That’s a huge thing at a very young age too. If anybody made things better for all of us, it’s her. She’s the one.”

The couple eventually tied the knot in 2012 and have since welcomed two children into their lives, son Matteo, eight, and daughter Emilia, five. Stanley Tucci also opened up about the lasting impact of losing his wife to cancer, admitting that the pain will never completely fade.

Reflecting on the loss, he shared, “I didn’t work for almost a year. It was hard. It was awful. Still is, in a way. You never really get over it… [I felt guilty] because I couldn’t help her and thought I could help her.”

Tucci also revealed the heart-wrenching reality of not being present during his wife’s final moments, fearing that it would haunt him forever. He explained, “I was afraid it would affect me so greatly that I wouldn’t be able to go on and take care of the kids. That it would overwhelm me, so I had to step away. Other people were there with her, my stepdaughter and friends, and that was a good thing. I did what I had to do to help the kids get along. But you still feel guilty about it, you feel sad.”

During his appearance on the show, Tucci was asked to select three songs that held special meaning to him. One of his choices, Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” had been requested by Kate to be played at her memorial service.

Tucci shared, “I just loved that she picked this song because that’s how she saw the world. She was always, always upbeat, always saw things in a positive way, no matter what was happening.”

The story of Stanley Tucci and Felicity Blunt serves as a reminder that love knows no boundaries, including age. Despite initial reservations, their connection blossomed, and they found happiness together, overcoming obstacles along the way. Their journey is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the potential for new beginnings even in the face of profound loss.
