The much-awaited FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 has finally begun, with 32 teams from around the globe vying for the ultimate prize in women’s football. Setting the stage for this grand sporting event is none other than the talented Australian singer and songwriter, Tones And I.

In an exciting collaboration, Tones And I joins forces with American rapper Bia and French-Senegalese singer-songwriter Diarra Sylla to create the competition’s official walkout anthem, “Bring It On.” The electrifying track was released in full on Friday, July 21, and is already making waves among football and music enthusiasts worldwide.

Produced by the acclaimed multi-Grammy Award-winner RedOne, “Bring It On” is set to reverberate across stadiums before all 64 games during the tournament. Moreover, Australian fans can look forward to catching the anthem’s sync opportunities on free-to-air commercial TV.

FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura emphasizes the significance of the collaboration, stating that the trio of artists hails from diverse continents and brings an array of musical influences to the table. Samoura envisions this anthem being used for future tournaments, promoting the unifying power of music and football on a global scale.

The anthem’s grand premiere took place just ahead of the opening match on Thursday, July 20, at Eden Park, Auckland, between New Zealand and former World Cup champions Norway.

Bia, a native of the reigning World Cup champion country, expresses her excitement about using music as a means to bring people and cultures together. Diarra Sylla, though her country Senegal missed out on the tournament this time, looks forward to representing her nation through the medium of music.

Tones And I, known by her real name Toni Watson, has a remarkable journey in the music industry. From humble beginnings as a busker on Australia’s east coast, she skyrocketed to global fame with her smash hit, “Dance Monkey.” The chart-topping track achieved an unprecedented feat, spending 24 weeks at No. 1 on Australia’s ARIA Singles Chart and 11 weeks at the summit in the U.K., setting a record for a solo female artist.

As a testament to her songwriting prowess, Tones led Billboard’s Hot 100 Songwriters Chart in January 2020, while “Dance Monkey” climbed to the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her extensive catalog has garnered over 10 billion streams worldwide, with hits like “Fly Away” peaking at No. 11 in the U.K. in 2021.

The talented artist is currently working on her highly-anticipated sophomore album, scheduled to release in 2024. Fans can also look forward to her new song, “The Greatest,” slated to drop on August 4.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup is making history as it is co-hosted by two nations, Australia and New Zealand, for the first time. Both host countries have already made an impressive start to their campaigns, adding an extra layer of excitement to the tournament.

As the Women’s World Cup unfolds with thrilling matches and exceptional talent on display, the collaboration of music and football through Tones And I’s anthem, “Bring It On,” will undoubtedly serve as a powerful symbol of unity, connecting people from various corners of the globe through the love for sports and music.
