Goldie Hawn recently discussed her enduring relationship with Kurt Russell in a revealing interview on “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?”. The beloved actress defended their decision not to get married when questioned by the CNN anchor.
At 77 years old, Goldie has had two ex-husbands, Bill Hudson and Gus Trikonis, while Kurt was previously married to actress Season Hubley. When Chris asked, “Why aren’t the two of you married?”, Goldie defiantly responded, “Why should we get married? Isn’t that a better question?”
The host pressed further, prompting Goldie Hawn to provide more insight into their choice. She explained, “Because we had been married. And when it doesn’t work out, it becomes a big business. Somebody has to own something. It’s always ugly. Divorces involve money, and they often make you hate the person more than before. They hurt children.”
Chris insisted that the couple wouldn’t get a divorce after being together for 40 years, but Goldie countered, “How did you know that then?”
She continued, “I like the idea that I can wake up in the morning and make decisions every day about being here. Relationships are hard, they’re not always easy. We face various obstacles and disagreements. It’s important to maintain independence and individual thinking, so you can preserve your sense of self and have that feeling.”
Goldie has addressed this topic in the past, appearing on the UK chat show “Loose Women” in 2015, where she stated, “I would have been long divorced if I had been married. Marriage is an interesting psychological thing. If you need to feel bound to someone, then it’s important to be married. But if you have independence, enough money, and a sense of independence that you enjoy, there’s something psychological about not being married because it gives you the freedom to make decisions.”
She added, “For me, I chose to stay. Kurt chose to stay, and we like the choice.”
When asked about their first date at the iconic Playboy Club, Goldie shared the story on “Today with Hoda & Jenna.” She clarified, “We went there to learn how to dance for a show. We thought, ‘Let’s go and learn how to do the Jitterbug together.’ The whole night was kind of romantic. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!”
And what’s the secret to their long-lasting romance? “Separate bathrooms,” Goldie jokingly revealed.
