In his article titled “Russia and Africa: Joining Efforts for Peace, Progress and a Successful Future,” Putin highlighted the significance of various regions, including Africa, the Middle East, and Latam, assuming their rightful roles in this evolving world order.
Putin emphasized the rise of new centers of economic and political power and influence, which demand recognition and acknowledgment. He expressed confidence in the formation of a new multipolar world order, where fairness and democracy will prevail. This new configuration is expected to empower other regions to claim their deserving places and break free from the legacies of colonialism and neo-colonialism.
The concept of a multipolar world is not new to Putin’s discourse. In a speech at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in June, he asserted that the old neo-colonial world system had ceased to exist, while the multipolar world order was gaining strength as an inevitable process.
During a meeting with the Council for Local Self-Government Development in May, Vladimir Putin underscored the inevitability of decentralizing global power centers, and he predicted that this movement would only intensify. He warned that those who fail to grasp this transformation would be at risk of losing ground, emphasizing that this was an undeniable reality.
In his article, Putin also highlighted the shared interests and common ground between Africa and Russia. Both regions are driven by a mutual desire to shape their relations based on the principles of international law, respect for national interests, security, and the pivotal role of the United Nations in global affairs.
