Internal records detail beating, subsequent lies

Since Tyre Nichols’ beating at the hands of police officers, and subsequent death, eight officers have either been fired or left the Memphis (Tenn.) Police Department.

The administrative hearing records of seven officers, who were either fired or left the department after receiving a statement of internal charges for his role in the beating and alleged misconduct, were obtained by The USA TODAY Network through a public records request to the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) — Tennessee’s board for law enforcement certification and decertification — and the latest of those files helps fill in missing details on what happened during and after the beating.
