Dunkin’ drops the Dunkaccino drink from its beverage menu

The Dunkaccino has left the building.

Dunkin’ has officially removed the drink, a combination of coffee and hot chocolate, from its menu, the restaurant chain says.

“As we focus on innovation and finding new ways to delight guests, we continually evolve our menu in an effort to deliver a fast, frictionless experience,” the company said in a statement to USA TODAY. “The Dunkaccino is retired for now, but there’s always the chance for its return in the future.”

Dunkaccino fans may have had an inkling this was coming. That’s because some customers posted on social media in recent months that they couldn’t get the drink anymore at their their local locations, according to TODAY.com, which first reported the development.

Dunkin added the Dunkaccino to its menu in 2000, according to the chain’s Facebook timeline. The drink’s description – a “unique blend of coffee and hot chocolate flavors” – remains on the chain’s website. Dunkin has also retired the frozen Dunkaccino it began selling in 2015.

The Dunkaccino was referenced in 2011 when Al Pacino made a fictional Dunkin’ commercial about the drink in the movie “Jack and Jill,” food site Delish reported.

It may not be a direct replacement for the Dunkaccino, but for a limited time, through March 31, visitors can order an Irish Creme Flavored Iced Coffee. The drink, which Dunkin’ first offered in 2013, has the taste of liqueur (without any alcohol), sweet creme and vanilla.
